Rich, But Poor: Fake Purses And Beyond
Rich, But Poor: Fake Purses And Beyond
“Wow, that’s a great designer bag! But why does it smell like burnt plastic and shoe polish?” “Gorgeous necklace girl! But what’s that green rash on your neck?” “She must me be successful, look at that Gucci bag, and Chanel glasses. Wait, why is she getting in that ’82 Honda Civic?” Ah, the joy of fake bags, jewelry and glasses. The excitement of getting something that “looks” real for 20 bucks sure wears off quick, doesn’t it?
It’s hard today to keep up with the Jones’ these days. Seems like everyone has the latest sheik designer handbag and some ultra trendy designer shades. The media and advertisers are telling you spend spend spend! You want to be as cool as LC or Heidi, but you’ve got one big problem, NO CASH. So you sneak down to Chinatown or up to your friend’s house where there is a lady selling “replica” bags like it was a Tupperware party, what a steal! It gives you that same feeling you had when you were 16 smoking weed in your mom’s car or sneaking off with some guy to make out at a party. Now your cool, you’ve got the gear and you are ready to roll. Not so fast.
Fake: artificial, bogus, counterfeit, forged, phony, reproduction, make-believe, ah, make-believe that is the best one. This is essentially what is going on, you’re making-believe that you’re rich, when you are really poor. Further, think about how your boyfriend or husband feels when he works hard, saves his money and buys you a really expensive designer bag. But, just last week you were wearing a fake Gucci and some bogus Chanel glasses, why should he even bother.
Bottom line ladies, everyone knows that your janky oversized Juicy gym bag is faker than Pam Andersons hoots. You’re not fooling anyone, even yourself. There are ways to afford designer goods that are real and won’t bankrupt you in the process. Get over to the Solution and find out how to class things up with quality designer gear, instead of that plastic piece of crap you have slung over your arm.
Rich, But Poor: Solution
Save your money! Unfortunately our society is dominated by consumerism and a “buy it now” mentality. It is OK to save up your money and buy something nice, instead of charging it. The satisfaction of paying cash money for something will out shine the charge card 10 to 1 every time. Further, while you are saving you will get more excited about the new purse, shades or jewelry than if you dropped the card on the counter this weekend.
Drive to the outlets. The 20 bucks in gas you may need to spend getting to the outlets and hour away will be well worth it. There are outlets for everything these days. Burberry, BCBG, Saks, etc. all have well stocked, heavily discounted factory stores that can meet your needs. Make a day out of it, grab your BF or BFF and hit the road.
Buying real will actually save you money and time. Sounds crazy? Absolutely not. You may spend 400 on a Louis Vuitton purse that will last 20 years and only get better with age. You can spend 40 bucks on a fake Vuitton that will be in the landfill in 2 months. You do the math, we’re not that good at it. Also, used quality designer gear is still worth a bunch of money. You can turn around and sell your old Gucci bag on ebay for 50 percent or more!
Pride. If you don’t have any you will after getting some real gear. Try it, you’ll like it.

Everyone knows a fake is a fake, I think ladies are better off just getting something that isn’t a brand at all and making their own unique style. Otherwise it’s like you’re trying too hard to impress everyone else…and I hate to break it to you but NO ONE CARES about the brand of your bag, except for shallow, insecure bias.

If you like & can budget for the good stuff, invest in a good piece that represents your style & can go with everything. After all, you’ll wear that bag every day. Buy the trendy stuff cheap (not fake!) & it will mix in well with your wardrobe & your wallet. A good find for the real richy rich leftovers is at Cris on Polk. Great 2nd hand stuff for more than half the cost & you end up getting something that’s not on every marina girl’s arm. It’s also a good spot to trade up, when you’re still regretting the rainbow LV bag you spent your rent on a few years ago.

I don’t think it matters….who cares how much is costs!….as long as it looks good on your woman.
