Interview with Matt & Zaq
Matt & Zaq on the
“Pick-Up”
This month we sat down for a candid take on “Pick-Ups”, parties, and women with popular San Francisco promoters, Matt Seliga & DJ Zaq (aka Zach Lonas) of Redline Events, CrawlSF, and SF New Years (that was mouthful). We also brought the Cycle 61 photo crew with us, Vanity Fair has nothing on Picked By Guys!
PBG| How do you prefer to be approached by women?
Zaq| In pairs.
PBG| Easy now. We mean what advice do you have for women out there trying to meet guys?
Zaq| Oh got it. I would say just get out there and make it happen. If you are feeling shy, just remember that guys are generally going to be pumped to have any girl approach them. If they guy is rude or cold, then he sucks anyway, you don’t need that.
Matt| I would say the same thing. Roll the dice, you might be surprised.
PBG| What can women do to increase the odds of having a guy come up to them?
Matt| Be inviting, approachable. Make repeated eye contact with a guy and throw him a smile. I have seen many women pull the “too cool” thing. Acting like you are the best thing since sliced bread will only set you up to be approached by douchey guys. Also, move around, sitting in one spot against the bar or at a table limits your chances to “bump” into someone.
Zaq| I totally agree, a flirty smile can go a million miles.
PBG| What is the most wild experience you have ever had while getting hit on by a woman?
Matt| Oh come on man, I didn’t know it was going to be this kind of interview. I can’t say I remember being hit on by women very much. However, a couple of years back one of our New Years parties sold out extremely fast. I had women sending me pictures of themselves trying to persuade us to sell them tickets. That was pretty nuts.
PBG| You mean dirty pictures?
Matt| Let’s just say we can’t put them on our website.
PBG| We recently caught up with you at your blow out of a Mardi Gras party. Zaq, there were tons of women on the stage, dancing, boozing etc. They seemed to be talking to you every two seconds. Does that bother you when chicks talk to you on stage?
Zaq| Nah. I love to talk to everyone. It’s hard to find time, but I do. Just don’t touch the records! I might have a nervous breakdown. Wait, actually it does bother me when gals come up waisted and get super pissed when I won’t play their favorite song from 6th grade in the middle of the set. But, that’s rare. Bring on the requests ladies.
PBG| Give us an example of a time when you have totally failed or been dissed while trying to pick up on a girl.
Matt| Failed? What? No, seriously, we are just regular guys, I’ve been told to beat it more times than not. I have found that just starring at a girl all night without approaching her doesn’t work, you all know what I mean. You’ve got to take a chance and put it out there.
Zaq| I hate it when I spend all night talking with a girl, having some drinks, partying, livin it up, then at the end of the night drops the H or B bomb.
PBG| H or B bomb?
Zaq| Ya, husband or boyfriend.
