Here at PBG and Paddle House Media, we have a running joke about the J. Crew models. They seem to be the antithesis of the Victoria Secret models. We understand that they want a more classy/preppy looking gal, but these models are typically void of any curves, personality or sex appeal. Well this February we were shocked to see Loren Hutton back on the cover, our first take was “WHAT ARE THEY DOING???!!!”, it’s like they went from boring to old, but then we had a change of heart. We actually enjoy that she is back in the catalog. She is aged, gorgeous and showing everyone out there that middle aged women can be as sexy and powerful as a tween or twenty something. To further challenge our impression of their models, they included a sassy olive skinned beauty with a couple curves inside the catalog. Go J. Crew! Let’s get on to our impressions and some real advice about the clothing.

As always the good folks down at J.Crew filled the catalog with flattering, tasteful and classy threads for today’s women. It’s not news to anyone that J.Crew offers some of the most prep clothing out there. They once again included their insert for Weddings and Parties which is a huge hit. Their wedding attire is timeless, fun and affordable. Too often wedding clothing is tacky beaded crap or shiney satin garbage that makes the bride and bridesmaids look like hookers from Reno or Jersey. We especially loved their newest wedding gowns. The Tiered Analisa Gown is a great alternative to the standard white lace, chiffon, and vail.

HOT HOT HOT! That’s right, the new swim suits and bikinis are HOT! The Wide Band Hipster top paired with a pair of stripped bottoms will make a huge impact at the beach or local Paddle House. We love women in mixed and matched bikinis, it really gives an air of creativity and individuality that screams sexy.

The suiting was ok. Not our favorite line of suiting for women that they have come out with. We like to see women empowered in more traditional business suits and attire. J.Crew’s most recent line up is a little to mousey and passive. For some classic, powerful, baller suiting check out Brooks Brothers. Brook’s fitted French cuff dress shirts really let people know that you have style and are 100% professional. Finally, we are not pumped about J.Crew’s sandals. They keep putting out the same sandals season after season. We prefer to our women in a worn pair of Rainbows or deck shoes than those lame sandals from ‘94. -The Guys

Make sure to check out our new interview series starting Thursday February 19th. We recently caught up with The Hundred Days for their take on relationships and a killer photo shoot.

  2. Just wanted to say that a chick in a mixed bikini is HOT, not really sure why but I do tend to gravitate towards them. As for the sandels bit, I have noticed in the past that designer sandals on girls SCREAMS High Maintenace.

  4. Second on the business suit weekdays and flipflop weekend girls, so sexy. J. Crew does have some great threads for girls and guys. So cool to see this on my favorite lifestyles site.

  5. As a chick, I don’t often check out the female models, but I went to college with a few of the male J.Crew models and they were HOT! It great to hear the chicks are now representing too! You’re on crack about the flip flops - J.Crew has standard ones that are strong (not trendy) year after year. You’re right on par about the Brooks Brothers button down.
